Message from the ED

Dear Partners and Colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you the latest developments and initiatives from the Foundation for a Sustainable Society Inc. (FSSI). As part of our commitment to support social enterprises (SEs), we continue to offer comprehensive financial and capacity-building services designed to help SEs achieve balanced outcomes for people, the planet, and profits.

Our Project Development and Monitoring Unit, along with the Partnership Unit, has been actively visiting current and prospective partners to discuss ongoing support and future collaborations on the ground. This engagement ensures that our partners receive tailored assistance to maximize their impact.

Just last month, we conducted a Governance and Leadership Training for around 30 representatives from our partner social enterprises. This training was supported by the Investing in Women (IW) project, a 10-year initiative supported by the Australian Government that aims to scale up women-owned or -led social enterprises (WSEs) and create an enabling environment for women’s economic empowerment. By equipping social enterprise leaders with essential governance skills, the training aimed to support the development of their respective enterprises.

In addition to our financial and training initiatives, FSSI has supported several advocacy projects. First, the “Pagyabong ng Yamang Ani” project, implemented by a team of Development Studies students from the Ateneo de Manila University, supported farmers organizations in Antipolo, Rizal in marketing their value-added products to a broader audience. An FSSI project staff also provided valuable feedback and recommendations to the participating farmer groups.

FSSI also supported Good Food Community’s Gulay Pa More! Food Festival held at the University of the Philippines Diliman on May 25, 2024. Good Food Community is a network of organizations pursuing social entrepreneurship activities with farmers and small producers to advance the practice and advocacy of sustainable food systems. The food festival promoted Philippine food heritage and raised awareness on sustainable food systems.

Furthermore, we supported the 18th UP ComBroadSoc Gandingan Awards at UP Los Baños. The Gandingan Awards promote developmental TV, radio, and online programs beneficial to Filipinos. This year’s proceeds supported the Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasaka (PAKISAMA), a national confederation of farming families in the Philippines established in 1986. Its members include farmers, fisherfolk, women, indigenous peoples, and young farmers. Their goal is to address and improve the livelihood and needs of farming families.

We also extend our congratulations to our member organization, the Federation of Peoples’ Sustainable Development Cooperative (FPSDC) and the UPLB Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) for their successful Youth Leadership and Enterprise Development Program (YLEAD) held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. This program equipped participants with the skills to become effective youth leaders and enterprise advocates. FSSI is proud to have supported this year’s YLEAD pitch competition.

We thank our partner organizations and enterprises for the partnership and commitment in advancing the triple bottom of people, planet, and profit with us. Together, we can foster lasting positive impacts and enact meaningful changes that benefit our communities and the environment.
