AF holds session on CSO engagement

Quezon City, February 27, 2024 — Sherwin Celestino, FSSI Project Officer, and Nikkily Natan, Knowledge Management, Advocacy, and Communications (KMAC) Officer, joined a Learning Session on CSO-LGU Engagement at The Hub, Cubao, Quezon City.

Organized by the Association of Foundations (AF) and CSO Collab, the session aimed to explore the principles and practices that foster successful collaborations between civil society organizations (CSOs) and local government units (LGUs). 

The event featured insights from various resource speakers who shared their experiences and knowledge on CSO-LGU partnerships. Mr. Richard Villacorte of the Support for Local Governance Program at the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) provided a national development perspective. Local development perspectives were offered by Ms. Maria Anna Ignacio of Kasagana-ka Synergizing Operations and Ms. Liza Duropan-Hora of the Mahintana Foundation. A panel discussion included contributions from Mr. Austere Panadero of the Zuellig Family Foundation, Mr. Robert Calingo of Peace and Equity Foundation, Mr. Silvestre Barrameda of the National Resilience Council, and Ms. Georgina Ann Hernandez Yang of Galing Pook Foundation.

The discussions delved into the experiences of these leaders in CSO-LGU partnerships, addressing the challenges encountered and the characteristics and capacities needed for effective engagement. They also shared tips for forming and strengthening CSO-LGU collaborations. The session highlighted the importance of mutual understanding, strategic planning, and capacity building to enhance the impact of CSO-LGU engagements.
