House Committee on MSME Dev’t Approves Substitute Bill on Social Enterprise Dev’t

Quezon City, Metro Manila – The Poverty Reduction Through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Substitute Bill was approved by the Committee on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development (C-MSMED) of the House of Representatives on December 13, 2023.

The substitute bill replaces House Bills 2112, 4566, 4911, 5554, 6091, 6952 and 8192, which aimed at offering programs, resources, and incentives to foster the growth of social enterprises in the Philippines. The substitute bill is the output of a Technical Working Group (TWG) created to examine and consolidate these measures.

The committee is headed by Rep. Christian Unabia (1st District, Misamis Oriental). Meanwhile, the TWG was chaired by Rep. Joeman Alba (1st District, Bukidnon).

The PRESENT Bill aims to acknowledge and support social enterprises for their role in poverty reduction, and to create an enabling environment for them to thrive and lift more people out of poverty.
