Quezon City, Metro Manila – In a collaborative effort to address the urgent issues stemming from climate change, the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO) held its Social Development (SocDev) Week 2023 e-Talk Learning Sessions last October 17 to 18, 2023.
Focused on the theme “Facing the Impact of Climate Change on Sustainable Development,” the sessions aimed to foster dialogue among diverse stakeholders.
The Foundation for a Sustainable Society Inc. (FSSI) joined the SocDev Week, which emphasized sharing positive experiences, initiatives, and innovations to combat the repercussions of climate change on food security, health, and economic development. Aligning with the new CODE-NGO Network Strategic Plan 2023-2028, discussions centered on building resilience, ensuring good governance, promoting active citizenship, and fostering youth leadership.
Despite strides in addressing the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and democratic challenges, climate change remains a critical concern. The sessions provided insights into navigating the changing political landscape post-elections, and CODE-NGO emphasized the imperative for civil society organizations (CSOs) to actively confront climate change.
The climate crisis exacerbates existing inequalities, affecting vulnerable communities that contributed the least to environmental degradation. As the world grapples with the consequences of climate change, CSOs, including FSSI, play a crucial role in fostering environmental justice and working towards climate justice. In a brief yet impactful engagement, FSSI reaffirms its commitment to shaping a sustainable and equitable future.
