10 October 2022, Quezon City, Metro Manila – WeGen Energy Philippines (WeGen), in partnership with the Foundation for a Sustainable Society, Inc. (FSSI), is holding a learning session on the Framework of the Renewable Energy Program for the Agri-Fisheries Sector on October 12, 2022, from 9:30 am until 10:45 am, at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City, and online.

Renewable Energy Program for the Agri-Fisheries Sector
The Renewable Energy Program for the Agri-Fisheries Sector or REPAFS promotes the use of renewable energy (RE) in the agriculture and fisheries sector as a tool to motivate productivity enhancement, sustainability, and environmental protection. Led by the Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE), and in cooperation with the Department of Energy, REPAFS serves as a blueprint for the effective and efficient integration of RE in the said sectors.
During the session, speakers will share their experiences on the application of RE for agro-industrial purposes. They will include Engr. Shawna Velasco, Engineering Supervisor of San Andres Aqua Culture Corp (SANACOR), a shrimp farm in Mindanao that runs on solar energy; Mr. Francisco M. Vilela Jr., Vice President of Medvil Farms, Inc., which operates a hatchery in Pampanga; Mr. Diogenes Armando Pascua of the University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines, and Mr. Mars Catan, Chief Operating Officer of MAPECON Green Charcoal Philippines, Inc.
The Deep Dive Session encourages RE advocates to support the REPAFS, as it can help boost production and income for Filipino farmers and fishermen. Thus, RE technologies help build a sustainable and climate-adaptive livelihood for Filipinos.
It is organized by WeGen, an RE company that specializes in making use of the potential of Solar Photo-voltaic (PV) technologies to save on electricity costs, and as a means to combat greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. With the Philippines being one of the climate vulnerable countries in Asia, WeGen is committed to ecological conversion to help address the harsh outcome of the environmental destruction we are facing today. A subsidiary of WeGen, We Gen Laudato Si is a social enterprise partner of FSSI.
5th RE Congress

The Deep Dive Session is part of the 5th Renewable Energy Congress, an annual event that aims to provide a venue for discussions on developments in the RE industry. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to raising awareness, enhancing capacities, and facilitating the realization of better policies and partnerships among stakeholders through the plenaries and breakout sessions that tackle RE policy, energy efficiency, access, financing, practices, and innovations. The RE Congress is a flagship project of the Center for Empowerment, Innovation, and Training on Renewable Energy (CentRE), in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).
At a time when access to sustainable energy is critical to the country’s economic recovery, the 5th RE Congress will also focus on renewable energy in the context of addressing the concerns of workers and women — income, livelihood, services, and participation in the energy transition process.
