4 March 2022 – The Foundation for a Sustainable Society Inc. (FSSI) hosted “Creating a Culture of Learning: Driving Organizational Efficiency through Effective Knowledge Management,” a learning session on Knowledge Management (KM) on March 2, 2022. The session on Zoom was attended by around 50 participants, including those from FSSI member organizations and staff and other civil society organizations (CSOs).
Organizations are embracing KM practices as knowledge sharing is seen to improve efficiency and increase learning across teams. Forest Foundation Philippines (FFP)’s Knowledge Specialist Bryan Joel Mariano gave an introduction to KM and basic concepts that can be considered in crafting a KM program, particularly for CSOs.

Mariano shared that KM should enable organizations to achieve their objectives. He emphasized the need for organizations to have a shared understanding of what KM is, how managing knowledge could contribute towards organizational goals, and which types of knowledge they are able to handle. “Defining KM is quite elusive but once you align your definition of KM to your organizational goals and objectives, you will be able to come up with an effective KM strategy for your organization,” he said.
He also provided ways on how CSOs can get started or improve their KM, drawing from FFP’s experience with its five-year KM Strategic Plan.
